temple is precious manifestation of human spirit exploring some thing higher, some ideal, some unknown dimension of existence,

at once one overflows in emotions at the sight of such grandeur,

so much devotion, extreme commitment, creative imagination

that has been expressed in the temple architecture,

as if the builders have had a direct peep into the devaloka,

and absorbed the beauty truth and bliss

and came down to earth to share with all the world for ever

particularly one becomes utterly humble in the way ..kannada saint basava ...felt ...

enjoying the presence of divinity, in present moment, here and now,

ಉಳ್ಳವರು ಶಿವಾಲಯ ಮಾಡುವರು

ನಾನೇನು ಮಾಡಲಿ ಬಡವನಯ್ಯಾ

ಎನ್ನ ಕಾಲೇ ಕಂಬ, ದೇಹವೇ ದೇಗುಲ,

ಶಿರವೇ ಹೊನ್ನ ಕಳಸವಯ್ಯಾ

ಕೂಡಲಸಂಗಮದೇವಾ ಕೇಳಯ್ಯಾ,

ಸ್ಥಾವರಕ್ಕಳಿವ ುಂಟು ಜಂಗಮಕ್ಕಳಿವಿಲ್ಲ,

uLLavaru shiválaya máduvaru nánénu mádali badavanayyá

enna kále kambha dehavé degula shiravé honna kaLashavayyá

Kúdala Sangama Devá keLayya sthavarakkaLivunTu jangamakaLivilla

The rich will make temples for Shiva.

What shall I, a poor man, do?

My legs are pillars,

The body the shrine,

The head a cupola of gold.

Listen, O lord Kudal Sangama deva,

Things standing shall fall,

But the moving ever shall stayther than temple

in a way, temple is a school , devotees learn experience and grow

and a few graduate it, they found their answers in something else other than temple

ಒಳಗಿನ ತಿಳಿಯನು ಕಲಕದೆ ಇದ್ದರೆ ಅಮೃತದ ಸವಿಯಿದೆ ನಾಲಗೆಗೆ || ಎಲ್ಲೋ ||

ಹತ್ತಿರವಿದ್ದೂ ದೂರ ನಿಲ್ಲುವೆವುನಮ್ಮ ಅಹಂಮಿನ ಕೋಟೆಯಲಿ

ಎಷ್ಟು ಕಷ್ಟವೋ ಹೊಂದಿಕೆಯೆಂಬುದುನಾಲ್ಕು ದಿನದ ಈ ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ || ಎಲ್ಲೋ ||

I searched elsewhere for god who is not therein the temples of stone and mud

missing to see the friendliness and love that is right here amongst us

Where is nandan, where is bandhan every thing is within us

without knowing what lies withinhow can tongue taste the sweetness

Though we are nearest we stand afar in the fort of the ego

what a great trouble unable to accommodatein the short life of four days

For the water (pond) water-lily is the charm;

For the ocean tides are the charm;

For the woman character is the charm;

For the sky moon is the charm;

For foreheads of the devotees of the Lord of kUDala sangama,

the holy ash is the charm.

and thus leads me to extrapolate it as

for the earth [ civilization] a temple is the charm
