in my view, the basic reason is that 

one lost the precious light of the absolute 

which is the basic for leading virtuous life , 

in india, or else where

akka mahadevi lived without the need or greed for food cloth shelter, being a realized soul , she lived as a naked saint sleeping on the temple ruins, eating a few morsels by begging .

but one cannot suddenly start imitating her simplicity and become free from corruption 

one has to do sadhana as done by such souls and become freed from instincts .

and my heart bleeds at the sight of egos 

quarreling ,

the educated intellectuals fighting on trivialities, giving even biogs, blogs regularly ,on good behaviour, 

themselves not living what they are trying to preach or teach

without knowing what is the absolute, 

without seeing things in the light of the absolute 

and trying to solve the problems of world , real or perceived
