Dear sir, I am talking about 'discrimination' at the spiritual and mental level; NOT physical, superficial discrimination based on caste, colour, etc

Oh, I see your point. This is an inborn ability, for people anchored in spirituality and the quest for God - realization. Relativism has no place in in the mind of a seeker. Interestingly, even if an individual starts off without any (as you said) "basis or reference", if his efforts towards God - realization are genuine and pure, he or she will soon gain a solid reference point / basis against which he or she can then discriminate mentally and spiritually. Such a person, in the words of Sri Ramkrishn Paramhans, becomes like a sieve - retaining the valuable, discarding the waste. CB

The point is 1 every thing in the universe has different value at different levels of seeing , and these differences are valid and discrimination is right 2 at the same time, at fundamental level , we also see, all is the same one pure awareness, without any difference and discrimination is right but it is superficial , and we come out of conflicts in views 3 on relative plane we do / we must discriminate to avoid confusion but i absolute plane we must also know that all are same, to avoid giving undue weight-age for differences, and create chaos , hatred, bias, negativity rk treated gold and mud as one and threw both as a symbolic having gained access to true divinity in to himself , though he knows they have different value in market

In comparison with all other things at their all levels..... like in a periodic table of the elements , we see difference between iron and gold and discriminate , ascribe different values we do not treat them as one, but if we know the truth of our own existence, [ ultimate reference, ] that we are in essence only pure unmanifest awareness, then we come to know that every thing also is pure awareness in its essence, so we also overcome discrimination

Fantastic , thanks , i salute for your depth of knowledge. i concur but a few more words,,,,,, the basis/reference for 'discrimination' at the spiritual and mental level; and also physical, superficial---is the ultimate truth of existence every thing, person, being, phenomena, every article,particle, material, every matter , including the mind and spirituality have levels of existence, from grossest to subtlest to the ultimate beyond subtlest from surface to deepest depths if one gains access to the ultimate truth of existence, which is the true reference he gains the ultimate ability to discriminate, to estimate value, categorize, rate, separate, and see in total perspective, seeing individual thing in comparison with all other things at their all levels
